Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School Mengo held lively and well-structured orientation assemblies on the second day of the new term for both new and returning pupils in the Kindergarten and Lower Primary sections. The sessions provided a warm welcome while helping all learners settle comfortably into the school environment.
A key highlight of the assemblies was the introduction of the Term One theme: “Igniting the Passion for Learning and Striving for Excellence.” Pupils were guided to understand the significance of this theme and how it will shape their academic journey throughout the term. They were encouraged to cultivate curiosity, remain enthusiastic about learning, and consistently give their best effort in both classroom and co-curricular activities.
The assemblies also emphasized our School Culture, highlighting the values and practices that guide life at Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School Mengo. Pupils were encouraged to show respect to staff, peers and the school environment, fostering a positive and harmonious atmosphere. The importance of academic excellence was reinforced through active participation in lessons, consistent completion of homework, and engagement in projects that deepen understanding and develop practical skills. Learners were guided on how engagement in learning, both inside the classroom and through independent assignments, contributes significantly to their personal and academic growth.
Equally important was the promotion of a strong sense of belonging, helping every child feel included, valued, and part of the school community. Learners were further oriented on the School Routine, including reporting time, daily schedules, transitions, and dismissal procedures. Clear routines provide structure and stability, enabling pupils to develop independence, time management, and confidence in handling their responsibilities.
Another important moment during the orientation was the formal introduction of the teaching staff. This interaction fostered familiarity and reassurance, strengthening the bond between pupils and their teachers from the very beginning of the term. The Headteacher delivered an inspiring and thoughtful address, encouraging pupils to approach the new academic year with passion, commitment, and a positive mindset. Learners were reminded that excellence is achieved through consistency, discipline, and determination.
